Service is an important part of faith development and every student participates in making changes in their local community and beyond. Service extends far beyond monetary contributions, as students learn that much more is necessary to make a difference. Service takes part in the everyday curriculum and expectation of our students, and there are many ways students complete service projects in the community.
Crusaders for the Community
Crusaders for the Community is a school service organization that is dedicated to serving others. This organization disseminates information about volunteer opportunities that are available to the school community, giving students the opportunity to expand on their dedication to service inside and outside Central Catholic. While some of these service and volunteering opportunities are connected to the school, many are independent, which allows our students to serve the community at large. Crusaders for the Community meets a couple of times each month in order to update students on giving and volunteer opportunities.
For updates, please follow Crusaders for the Community on Twitter. In addition, the organization's projects are in the Crusader Corner, and all information is posted and updated on the portal site under 'groups.'
Annual Class-Wide Service Projects
Every year each class is involved in a year-long service project.
Community Donation Drives
Central Catholic students participate in the following community donation drives throughout the year:
- Food drives
- Mittens and Hats
- Operation Blanket
Catholic Relief Service Global Relief High School
One of the many ways Central Catholic performs service is by being a certified Catholic Relief Services Global Relief School.
Being a Global Relief School encourages high school students into active global citizenship and engages the entire school community in the mission of Catholic social teaching.
According to the organization, “CRS recognizes the vital role Catholic secondary schools play in the Church’s mission of evangelization and catechesis in the United States. Motivated by the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the CRS Global High School Program provides opportunities for Catholic secondary schools to join with CRS to educate about Catholic social teaching and advocate for solidarity with the global poor.”
The Global Relief High School program requires each participating high school to complete service projects throughout the school year, depending on the level of participation. Central Catholic is a Gold Level participant and has several service projects throughout the year including a CRS Operation Rice Bowl. Students also participated in a Hurricane Relief project and a "Sharing the Journey" project.
